PM Narendra Modi Urges IAS Officer Trainees to Put Citizens First in Governance

New Delhi, June 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday interacted with 183 IAS officer trainees of the 2024 batch currently serving as Assistant Secretaries in various ministries and departments of the Central Government. The interaction took place at Seva Teerth in New Delhi.

During the session, the young officers shared insights from their field assignments and administrative training experiences. Addressing the officers, the Prime Minister emphasized that public service should always remain focused on citizens. He urged them to adopt the principle of “Nagrik Devo Bhava” and ensure that every administrative decision reflects empathy, accountability, and responsiveness.

He said government files are not merely documents but represent the aspirations, challenges, and expectations of millions of people.

Highlighting the need for better coordination within government systems, Modi stressed the importance of a whole-of-government approach. He said complex development challenges require departments to work together rather than function in isolation.

According to the Prime Minister, stronger inter-departmental cooperation is essential for delivering effective and sustainable outcomes.

The Prime Minister described the current generation of civil servants as crucial contributors to India’s long-term development vision. He said every policy decision taken today should align with the national goal of building a developed India by 2047.

He identified self-reliance, manufacturing growth, energy security, employment generation, and innovation as key priorities for the coming decades.

Modi highlighted the growing role of technology in governance and noted that India has moved from a process-driven system to a results-oriented administration model.

He encouraged officers to leverage digital tools, artificial intelligence, and modern technologies to improve transparency, efficiency, and service delivery.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of data-driven governance, urging officers to use data not just as statistics but as a reflection of people’s real-life challenges and aspirations.

The Prime Minister welcomed the increasing participation of women in civil services, noting that more than 40 percent of the current IAS batch consists of women officers.

He said their growing contribution is playing a significant role in strengthening governance and nation-building.

Concluding his address, Modi advised the young officers to measure success through the positive impact they create rather than the positions they hold.

Expressing confidence in their abilities, he said their energy, innovation, and dedication would play a vital role in accelerating India’s development journey and realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Minister of State for Personnel Dr. Jitendra Singh, senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet Secretariat, the Department of Personnel and Training, and the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration were also present during the interaction.
