News Report: The entertainment war between India’s leading media houses has intensified as JioStar has taken legal steps against Zee Entertainment, accusing it of broadcasting several Bollywood films without proper licensing.
According to reports, JioStar has alleged that Zee telecast around 12 films despite not holding the broadcasting rights at the time. The complaint was submitted on May 4 and is currently being reviewed through mediation channels under the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee.
The dispute is part of a broader and growing rivalry between the two media conglomerates, which are already engaged in separate legal proceedings in London linked to a failed cricket broadcasting agreement worth billions.
Among the films cited in the dispute are classic and popular titles including Deewaar, Tridev, and Dangal. JioStar claims these films were aired without authorization, while Zee has reportedly contested some of the allegations, stating that permissions were obtained from relevant production sources in certain cases.
The matter is expected to be heard further on May 25, when Zee may be required to respond before the mediation panel. Failure to participate could be treated as non-cooperation in the dispute resolution process.
Both companies have so far avoided public statements on the ongoing legal matter. The case highlights the increasing competition in India’s fast-expanding media industry, where control over film and digital rights has become a major battleground for revenue and audience dominance.
