Gurugram Set to Launch Advanced ANPR Camera Network to Tighten Traffic Enforcement

380 smart surveillance cameras to begin trial operations across major roads for automated violation detection

Gurugram, May 10, 2026: Gurugram is preparing for a major upgrade in traffic monitoring as approximately 380 Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras equipped with advanced violation detection technology are scheduled to undergo testing over the next three weeks across key city corridors.

The large scale surveillance initiative is being jointly executed by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority and district police, with implementation support from Maruti Suzuki India under a corporate social responsibility partnership.

The smart camera network is being installed at 23 critical junctions covering nearly 40 kilometres of some of Gurugram’s busiest routes, including Golf Course Road, Golf Course Extension Road, Southern Peripheral Road, MG Road, and Old Delhi Road.

Officials stated that the system is designed to automatically identify multiple traffic violations, including overspeeding, red light jumping, illegal turns, lane indiscipline, stop line breaches, and unauthorized parking.

The surveillance setup includes high resolution number plate recognition cameras, red light enforcement systems, wide angle monitoring cameras, and pan tilt zoom devices for comprehensive road coverage.

Authorities said the system can monitor vehicles travelling at speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour and aims to eliminate inconsistencies associated with manual traffic enforcement while improving overall road safety.

Following successful testing, the cameras will be integrated with the city’s Integrated Command and Control Centre in Sector 44, enabling real time monitoring and automated law enforcement.

The project marks a significant expansion of Gurugram’s intelligent traffic management infrastructure, complementing the existing surveillance network already operational across the city and Manesar.
