Leh, April 30, 2026: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah is set to inaugurate a series of major dairy infrastructure and cooperative development projects in Ladakh on May 1, marking a significant push toward strengthening the region’s rural economy and dairy sector.
The large scale programme, scheduled at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies in Leh, will also be attended by Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena.
The event will witness the launch and foundation laying of several projects aimed at modernising dairy production, boosting milk processing capabilities, improving storage systems, and creating stronger market access for local dairy farmers across Ladakh.
Among the key initiatives, Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone for a 10 tonne per day dairy plant in Kargil while also inaugurating advanced dairy processing facilities in Leh for products such as curd and paneer. New bulk milk cooling systems will also be introduced to improve cold chain infrastructure and transportation efficiency.
As part of efforts to digitise cooperative operations, an Android based Automated Milk Collection System will be launched to simplify milk procurement, improve payment transparency, and enhance operational efficiency for dairy farmers.
To strengthen quality assurance at the grassroots level, the programme will also include the launch of a mobile milk testing laboratory, enabling on site product quality checks and technical support for dairy producers.
Several Memorandums of Understanding are also expected to be signed to improve the marketing and distribution of dairy products under established brands, creating stronger commercial opportunities and better value realisation for Ladakh’s dairy sector.
Progressive dairy farmers from the region will be honoured during the programme in recognition of their contributions to cooperative growth and agricultural advancement.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi,” focusing on cooperative empowerment, rural prosperity, and inclusive economic development, particularly in geographically remote and strategically important regions like Ladakh.
