Kangana Ranaut Stands by ‘Tapori’ Remark on Rahul Gandhi, Says She Won’t ‘Glorify’ Him

Actor-MP defends comments, raises questions over parliamentary behaviour and decorum

Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has responded to the controversy surrounding her “tapori” remark directed at Rahul Gandhi, asserting that while she respects individuals, she does not believe in elevating someone’s stature without reason.

In a recent interaction with ANI, Ranaut clarified her position, stating that respect does not necessarily mean admiration or endorsement.

She remarked that she sees no reason to “glorify” the Leader of the Opposition, adding that public figures should be judged based on their conduct rather than their position.

Ranaut also raised concerns about Gandhi’s behaviour in Parliament, suggesting that a certain level of decorum is expected in such spaces. She questioned whether current standards of political conduct are appropriate, particularly in high-profile forums.

The BJP MP further referred to a recent speech by Gandhi in which he used analogies related to martial arts, including terms describing physical holds. According to Ranaut, the manner of expression made some listeners uncomfortable, particularly women present during the address.

She argued that discussions in Parliament should remain focused and avoid language that may be perceived as inappropriate or distracting.

This is not the first time Ranaut has criticised Gandhi. In previous remarks, she had also questioned his public behaviour, drawing comparisons with other political figures and calling for higher standards in public life.

The remarks have added to the ongoing political sparring between leaders from rival parties, with debates over language, conduct, and political messaging continuing to dominate public discourse.
