819 Panchayat Buildings Constructed or Rebuilt in Uttarakhand in Four Years, Minister Tells Assembly

Dehradun, March 10, 2026: A total of 819 Panchayat buildings have been constructed or rebuilt across Uttarakhandin the past four years, the state government informed the Assembly on Tuesday. The update was shared by Panchayati Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj during the Question Hour of the ongoing budget session.

The minister said the work was carried out during the tenure of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, following directions to strengthen rural infrastructure and restore dilapidated Panchayat offices across the state. The Panchayati Raj Department launched a special campaign to repair or rebuild damaged structures, leading to the completion of hundreds of buildings in villages over the last four years.

Maharaj informed the House that the initiative aims to improve administrative functioning at the grassroots level and provide better facilities for local governance. Work on additional Panchayat buildings that still require renovation or reconstruction is continuing in various districts.

During the Assembly proceedings, the government also highlighted progress in other infrastructure projects in the state. Officials noted that the Public Works Department has undertaken a major drive to repair damaged roads and make them pothole-free across Uttarakhand. Thousands of kilometres of roads have already been repaired as part of this campaign.

The Assembly session, which began on March 9 with an address by Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.), has focused on development initiatives, including improving infrastructure, expanding digital services, generating employment opportunities, and strengthening rural governance across the hill state.
