New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Nitin Nabin after he formally assumed charge as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party’s headquarters in the national capital. The charge-taking ceremony was attended by several senior leaders, including Former BJP National President J. P. Nadda, Union Cabinet ministers, and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, including Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, were also present on the occasion.
At 45, Nitin Nabin has become the youngest national president in BJP’s history and the 12th leader to hold the party’s top organisational post. He was elected unopposed, with no other candidates in the fray, reflecting strong support across the party’s leadership. Thirty-seven sets of nomination papers backing Nabin’s candidacy were submitted to K Laxman, the Returning Officer for the election, on Monday. Among the proposers were several senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav, Kiren Rijiju, Hardeep Puri and outgoing president JP Nadda, among others, underlining the broad consensus behind his elevation. Nitin Nabin, who hails from Bihar, is the son of late senior BJP leader and four-time Bihar Assembly legislator Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha. He entered active politics in 2006 following his father’s death and rose steadily through the party ranks, gaining prominence for his organisational work and grassroots outreach. He succeeds JP Nadda, who took over as BJP president in January 2020. JP Nadda initially served as working president before being appointed to a full term, which was later extended until June 2024. With Nitin Nabin at the helm, BJP is expected to focus on organisational strengthening and preparations for upcoming electoral challenges, with party leaders expressing confidence in his ability to lead the organisation forward.
