Kota (Rajasthan): A burglary attempt in Rajasthan’s Kota district ended in dramatic fashion when an alleged thief became trapped inside a kitchen exhaust fan shaft while trying to enter a residential house, police officials confirmed on Monday.
The incident took place at the residence of Subhash Kumar Rawat, who was away on a religious trip to Khatushyamji on January 3. According to police, the accused unlawfully entered the premises with the intention of stealing valuables. However, while attempting to squeeze through the narrow exhaust fan shaft connected to the kitchen, he became stuck midway and was unable to move forward or retreat.
The situation came to light in the early hours of January 4 when Rawat’s wife returned home around 1 am and unlocked the main gate. The kitchen area was illuminated by the headlights of a scooter parked outside, revealing the unusual sight of the accused hanging helplessly in the exhaust opening — part of his body inside the house and the rest protruding outside.
Neighbours were alerted immediately, following which police were informed. The accused reportedly remained trapped in the confined space for nearly an hour before being rescued by local residents and law enforcement officials. He was later taken into custody.
A video showing the thief stuck inside the exhaust shaft has since surfaced on social media and is rapidly gaining traction, drawing widespread attention and reactions from users online.
Police said further investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken against the accused.
