New Delhi , October 24, 2025 — To ensure a safe and comfortable return journey for passengers after the Chhath Puja festivities, Indian Railways has announced 6,181 special trains connecting major destinations across India. The initiative is part of Railways’ comprehensive festive operations plan, designed to manage massive passenger movement as people travel back to their workplaces post-celebration.
During the festive season, over 12,000 special trains have been operated, with 900 additional trips scheduled in the next three days to clear the returning rush. Major railway hubs including New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, and Udhna have been equipped with enhanced holding areas, ticketing counters, and passenger amenities.
To manage the high demand in eastern India, 30 stations in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh—including Patna, Danapur, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Samastipur, Barauni, Gorakhpur, Ballia, and Varanasi—have received upgraded facilities such as weather-proof holding areas, CCTV surveillance, and extra coaches to accommodate increased traffic.

Railways has expanded its Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters, and mobile unreserved ticketing (m-UTS) facilities to make ticketing smoother. Passengers also benefit from queue management systems, real-time announcements, and 24×7 operational war rooms at Railway Board, Zonal, and Divisional levels to handle on-ground issues swiftly.

Adding a cultural touch, devotional Chhath songs are being played at major railway stations such as Patna, Danapur, Hajipur, Bhagalpur, Jamalpur, Sonpur, New Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Anand Vihar Terminal—creating an atmosphere of devotion and celebration.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been deployed extensively to maintain order and assist passengers. At critical junctions like Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Darbhanga, and Saharsa, 24×7 medical booths with ambulance and fire brigade support have been set up to handle emergencies. Cleanliness, sanitation, and lighting are being closely monitored to ensure passenger comfort.
Travellers from across the country have lauded the Indian Railways for its efforts. From Badshahnagar to Bengaluru, passengers have expressed gratitude for timely services, clean stations, and courteous staff. Special praise has been extended to railway employees at Howrah, who assisted a disabled passenger with care and dedication.
The official “Railway Fact Check” handle on X has actively debunked fake news regarding alleged train incidents, reaffirming Indian Railways’ transparency and commitment to accurate public information.
Through extensive planning, passenger-centric measures, and festive outreach, Indian Railways continues to ensure that millions of passengers travel home and return safely — reflecting its motto of “Service with Dedication.”
