New Delhi, September 11, 2025 – The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC), in collaboration with Amity University, Noida, hosted Purple Fest 2025 on 10–11 September 2025, honoring creativity, talent, and the empowerment of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan).
Art & Craft Exhibition: Showcasing unique creations by Divyangjan.
Entrepreneurship Stalls: 22 stalls provided a platform for Divyangjan entrepreneurs.
Cultural & Sports Events: Celebrating diversity and participation.
Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) Programmes: Focused on Indian Sign Language (ISL) to strengthen professional knowledge.
Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, emphasized that purple is a symbol of equality, dignity, and confidence, highlighting that Divyangjan are “uniquely gifted with talents that inspire society to look beyond physical limitations.”
Manmeet Kaur Nanda, Additional Secretary, DEPwD, stressed that assistive devices are a right, not charity, enabling independence and self-respect.
During the inauguration, Gurdeep Kaur Vasu, the first deafblind Indian to secure a government job under the multiple-disabled category (Commercial Tax Department, Madhya Pradesh), received a Certificate of Appreciation for her remarkable perseverance and accomplishments.
Purple Fest 2025 reinforced that disability is not a weakness, assistive devices are not charity, and respect is a right, reflecting India’s commitment to inclusion and empowerment of all.
This vibrant festival stands as a testament to the spirit of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, fostering a society where dignity and equal opportunity for persons with disabilities are celebrated and upheld.
