New Delhi, 25th June : In a significant step towards cultural preservation and civic enhancement, the third NDMC Council Meeting chaired by Hon’ble Minister Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh passed multiple forward-looking resolutions aimed at upgrading public amenities and honoring Delhi’s rich spiritual legacy.
The meeting, attended by Member of Parliament Smt. Bansuri Swaraj, NDMC Vice Chairman Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, and other dignitaries, outlined a comprehensive roadmap for religious places development, women’s safety infrastructure, and advanced sanitation systems across the NDMC area.
Development of religious places Initiative Inspired by PM Modi’s Vision
Taking inspiration from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s national mission to rejuvenate religious and cultural sites, Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh announced the formation of a Special Committee for Beautification and Development.
The committee will focus on:
•Surveying religious places in the NDMC region
•Upgrading facilities for devotees, including drinking water, seating, and sanitation
•Enhancing lighting, pathways, and overall aesthetics of temple premises
•Coordinating with stakeholders to ensure smooth execution without disrupting religious activities
Speaking on this initiative, Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh said:
“Religious places are not just structures of faith — they are centres of culture, service, and spiritual energy. Our effort is to make these spaces cleaner, safer, and more welcoming, in true alignment with Modi ji’s vision for a culturally awakened Bharat.”
Civic Resolutions for a Cleaner, Safer, and More Inclusive NDMC
The council also approved a series of key civic infrastructure upgrades:
1. Ensuring Dignity and Safety: Pink Toilets in Every Market
Reinforcing its commitment to women’s safety and hygiene, NDMC will construct pink toilets in every major market and public space across its jurisdiction. These facilities will feature modern amenities and be subject to regular maintenance and monitoring. The initiative aims to create a cleaner, safer, and more dignified environment for women—residents and visitors alike.
2. Procurement of New Road-Sweeping Machines
To further improve urban cleanliness, the NDMC greenlit the procurement of state-of-the-art road-sweeping machines. These will significantly increase the efficiency and coverage of daily road cleaning operations.
3. Upgradation of Jhuggi Clusters and Dhobi Ghats
As part of its commitment to inclusive development, NDMC will undertake the upgradation of Jhuggi clusters with a special focus on traditional washer communities. Existing Dhobi Ghats located in these areas will be revamped with improved infrastructure, including access to clean water, electricity, shaded working zones, and proper waste disposal systems. This initiative aims to enhance both the living and working conditions of the underserved communities in NDMC areas.
4. Improved Public Toilet Maintenance
Recognizing the importance of sanitation, a robust inspection and maintenance framework has been approved to ensure that all public toilets under NDMC remain clean, functional, and accessible. Regular audits and repairs will be undertaken to improve service standards.
A Vision for Holistic Urban Governance
Today’s council meeting represents a strategic alignment of cultural revival and urban development — addressing both spiritual and civic needs of Delhi’s residents. These initiatives are part of a broader commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and timely execution.
“Cleanliness, culture, and compassion — these will be the new pillars of governance in NDMC. From religious places to toilets, every citizen must feel the change on the ground,” said Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh, concluding the meeting.
