New Delhi June 20- In a significant development for India’s pension regulatory framework, Sivasubramanian Ramann has officially taken charge as the Chairperson of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) on June 20, 2025. His appointment, made by the Government of India through a notification issued on April 8, 2025, is for a fixed term of five years from the date he assumes office or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever is earlier, unless modified by further orders.
Ramann is a seasoned civil servant from the 1991 batch of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS), with over three decades of extensive experience in financial oversight, digital transformation, regulatory governance, and public administration. His diverse professional journey reflects a blend of leadership roles across top financial and regulatory institutions in India.
Before assuming his current role at PFRDA, Ramann served as Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General of India, while also holding the post of Chief Technology Officer in the Office of the CAG. His previous leadership roles include serving as Chairman and Managing Director of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), Managing Director and CEO of National E-Governance Services Ltd. (NeSL), and Principal Accountant General for the state of Jharkhand.
Notably, Ramann also held senior regulatory positions at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) from 2006 to 2013, where he rose to the level of Executive Director. These roles have equipped him with a deep understanding of India’s financial systems, institutional frameworks, and regulatory mechanisms.
An academic achiever, Ramann holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and an MBA from the University of Delhi. He has pursued further qualifications including an M.Sc. in Financial Regulation from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an LLB, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Securities Law. Additionally, he is a Certified Internal Auditor accredited by the Institute of Internal Auditors, Florida, and holds a Chief Digital Officer certification from the Indian School of Business.
With such a strong combination of financial acumen, administrative capability, and regulatory insight, Ramann’s leadership is expected to strengthen PFRDA’s mandate of expanding pension coverage and deepening retirement security for India’s growing workforce. His appointment comes at a time when India is witnessing rapid economic and demographic shifts, making the role of pension regulators more critical than ever.
