New Delhi : Bihar is celebrating its 113th Foundation Day today, marking the creation of the state from the Bengal Presidency during British rule on March 22, 1912. This day, known as Bihar Diwas, holds deep significance as it highlights both the historical and modern achievements of Bihar.
This year’s theme for the celebration, “Unnat Bihar, Viksit Bihar” (Progressive Bihar, Developed Bihar), underscores the state’s transformation and its future potential. The festivities are a blend of cultural events, exhibitions, and performances held across the state, showcasing Bihar’s rich heritage, innovative present, and promising future.
The main event will take place at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, where Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate a three-day mega celebration. This celebration will feature various government departments’ pavilions, offering a comprehensive look at Bihar’s ongoing development. The event promises to highlight the state’s achievements in sectors like infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
The celebrations are being held across the state, including cultural programs, debates, marathons, morning processions, and memorial lectures, reflecting the vibrant spirit of Bihar. The illumination of government buildings in blue adds a sense of unity and respect to the occasion. A special highlight is the Vyanjan Mela (Food Festival) at Gandhi Maidan, offering traditional Bihari delicacies such as Litti Chokha, Khurma, Balushahi, and Makhana. These foods symbolize the diverse and rich flavors of Bihar, bringing locals and visitors together in a celebration of cultural pride.
The tradition of celebrating Bihar Diwas was initiated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in 2010. The goal was to honor Bihar’s achievements and instill a sense of pride and unity among its people. This year’s event reflects on the remarkable strides Bihar has made, particularly in sectors like rural empowerment through Self-Help Groups (Jeevika Didis), the Ganga Water Uplifting Project, and the expansion of the state’s road network, which have contributed to its ongoing development.
Renowned researcher Bhairab Lal Das, in a conversation with Akashvani News, shared his insights into Bihar’s path to development. He emphasized how Bihar, despite facing challenges, has been steadily reclaiming its historic glory. With continued effort, the state is on a strong path toward progress, becoming an emerging leader in multiple domains.
