Delhi Police ‘Operation Track Back’ Strikes Big: 305 Stolen Phones Recovered, Worth Over ₹4 Crore

NEW DELHI, 19,feb,2025 : In today’s digital age, mobile phones have become an indispensable part of our daily lives. Beyond communication, they play a crucial role in financial transactions, social interactions, professional engagements, and emergency assistance. Losing a phone not only results in financial loss but also raises serious concerns about data theft, identity fraud, and personal security breaches. Acknowledging these challenges, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police, through its proactive initiative ‘Operation Track Back,’ has been diligently working to track, recover, and return stolen and lost mobile devices to their rightful owners.

In a significant breakthrough, the dedicated teams from Cyber Cell, AKEC, and WR-1 sections of the Crime Branch successfully intercepted international mobile theft and smuggling networks, recovering over 305 stolen mobile phones valued at more than ₹4 crores. On January 10, 2025, the Cyber Cell arrested Manish Yadav from Wazirabad, Delhi, seizing 195 high-value stolen mobile phones worth approximately ₹2 crores. Later, on January 30, 2025, AKEC apprehended two members of an international mobile theft gang, Rahul from Tigri JJ Colony and Vaheed from Sangam Vihar, at Indraprastha Park Bus Stand, recovering 58 costly stolen phones. Additionally, on February 10, 2025, WR-1 arrested Asif, alias Kamal, from Aman Vihar, Kirari, and seized 52 stolen mobile phones, including 40 iPhones.

The operation posed significant challenges due to the large volume of recovered devices, many of which were locked or completely drained. Linking these devices to registered FIRs and lost reports required meticulous efforts. Yet, rising to the occasion, the Crime Branch successfully returned a total of 216 mobile phones to their rightful owners: 173 by Cyber Cell, 23 by AKEC, and 20 by WR-1. After due verification, these identified phones were handed over, reinforcing Delhi Police’s commitment to public safety and digital security. The verification process for the remaining devices is ongoing, and once verified, they too will be returned to their owners.

‘Operation Track Back’ stands as a testament to Delhi Police’s unwavering commitment to protecting citizens from digital and financial crimes. The initiative goes beyond recovering lost or stolen mobile phones; it ensures that these devices are systematically verified and returned to their rightful owners. Citizens are encouraged to report lost or stolen devices promptly through the e-FIR system and maintain proper records of their IMEI numbers, which significantly aids in the recovery process.

Delhi Police appeals to all citizens to remain vigilant, safeguard their mobile devices, and report any lost or stolen phones immediately. The Crime Branch remains dedicated to alleviating the distress of victims and will continue proactive measures against mobile phone theft and illegal smuggling operations. By staying alert and reporting incidents promptly, the public can contribute to making Delhi a safer place for everyone.
