Prayagraj : In a bid to ensure the smooth management of the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, the Uttar Pradesh government has officially declared the entire Mela area as a no-vehicle zone, effective immediately. This decision comes ahead of the highly anticipated Mauni Amavasya on January 29, when millions of devotees are expected to take part in the holy dip at the Sangam.
The no-vehicle zone will help mitigate the heavy traffic and congestion that usually accompanies such massive gatherings. With millions of pilgrims expected to visit the sacred site during the Mela, the authorities have emphasized the importance of this measure in maintaining order and ensuring the safety of all attendees. The government is particularly focused on managing the flow of people during Mauni Amavasya, one of the most significant dates of the Kumbh Mela, which typically sees an overwhelming influx of visitors.
To oversee the situation, the Integrated Control and Command Center (ICCC) has been activated. The center will monitor crowd density and manage real-time data to ensure that no excessive gatherings occur at the Sangam Nose, a crucial area where devotees congregate for the holy bath. By using advanced surveillance tools and crowd management techniques, the authorities aim to prevent overcrowding and minimize the risk of accidents or stampedes.
In addition to the ICCC, the Uttar Pradesh government has deployed quick-response teams in high-density areas throughout the Mela site. These teams are specially trained to handle emergencies, provide medical assistance, and manage any unforeseen situations that may arise. With millions of people expected to converge on Prayagraj, the prompt response and efficient management of resources will be critical in ensuring that the Mela remains a safe and spiritual experience for all.
The no-vehicle zone also aligns with the state’s efforts to reduce pollution and maintain cleanliness around the event venue. By restricting vehicle access, the government hopes to create a cleaner and more peaceful environment for pilgrims. Authorities have also planned alternative transport solutions to help devotees reach the Mela area, ensuring that the movement of people remains uninterrupted while maintaining safety and order.
