Delhi Capitals Beat UP Warriorz by 7 Wickets in WPL 2025 Thriller

New Delhi : In the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, Delhi Capitals secured a thrilling 7-wicket victory over UP Warriorz at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara last night. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Delhi Capitals effectively restricted UP Warriorz to 166/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

UP Warriorz’s innings was anchored by opener Kiran Navgire, who played an explosive knock, scoring a quick-fire 50 to give her team a solid start. However, the middle order struggled to maintain the momentum, with the Delhi bowlers applying pressure in the later overs. Jess Jonassen and Radha Yadav led Delhi’s bowling attack, picking up crucial wickets and restricting the run flow.

Chasing 167 for victory, Delhi Capitals displayed remarkable composure and chased down the target with three wickets down and just one ball to spare. Captain Meg Lanning led from the front with a superb 69 off 45 balls, showcasing her class with elegant stroke play and impeccable timing. Her innings laid the foundation for the chase, while middle-order batters Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp ensured a successful finish.

With 16 runs needed off the final two overs, the duo held their nerve. Sutherland remained unbeaten on 41 off 28 balls, playing crucial shots under pressure, while Kapp added a quick 29 to guide the team to victory. Annabel Sutherland’s all-round performance, coupled with her calm presence in the closing stages, earned her the Player of the Match award.

This victory strengthens Delhi Capitals’ position in the tournament, boosting their playoff hopes. Speaking after the match, Meg Lanning praised her team’s resilience and lauded the bowlers for restricting the opposition to a manageable total. She also highlighted the importance of partnerships during the chase, crediting Sutherland and Kapp for their finishing touches.

On the other hand, UP Warriorz captain Alyssa Healy expressed disappointment with her team’s inability to capitalize on the strong start. She acknowledged the need to improve their middle-order performance and maintain composure in pressure situations as the tournament progresses.
