New Delhi, Feb 20 ,2024: The Defence Ministry on Thursday finalized an agreement with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the acquisition of 149 Software Defined Radios (SDRs) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) at a total value of Rs 1220.12 crore under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.
According to a statement from the Defence Ministry, these cutting-edge radios will facilitate secure and dependable information exchange, coordination, and situational awareness through high-speed data and encrypted voice communication. The SDRs, designed with advanced technology, will enable seamless connectivity across multiple platforms, ensuring that the ICG can maintain real-time communication even in challenging maritime environments.
This procurement will significantly boost the Indian Coast Guard’s ability to perform its key duties, such as maritime law enforcement, search and rescue missions, fisheries protection, and safeguarding the marine environment. By enhancing these critical capabilities, the ICG will be better equipped to address both routine and emergency situations, thereby ensuring the safety and security of India’s coastal waters.
Additionally, the new radios will improve interoperability for coordinated operations with the Indian Navy, allowing for smoother joint exercises and operational synergy.
