Northern India Railways Face Major Disruptions Due to Dense Fog

New Delhi : Dense fog has blanketed northern parts of India, severely affecting train services and causing significant delays. The Indian Railways has reported that at least 10 Delhi-bound trains are running behind schedule due to low visibility. Among the delayed trains are prominent services like the Duronto Express, Farakka Express, Kaifiyat Express, and Sampark Kranti. Passengers traveling on these routes have been advised to stay updated on train schedules and delays by checking the latest information before heading to their stations.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported near-zero visibility at multiple locations, exacerbating disruptions. Stations in Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Purnea (Bihar), and Chandbali and Paradip (Odisha) are among the worst affected. This low visibility has caused operational challenges for train drivers, forcing rail authorities to slow down or reschedule services to ensure passenger safety.

The thick fog has also led to inconvenience for passengers, with many waiting for hours at stations in chilly winter conditions. Travelers have expressed frustration over the lack of timely updates on train schedules. However, railway authorities have assured that all efforts are being made to minimize delays and enhance passenger comfort during this period.

In addition to train services, the dense fog has disrupted other aspects of daily life in northern India. Road traffic in several cities has slowed down, with vehicles navigating cautiously due to reduced visibility. Air travel has also been impacted, with reports of delayed and canceled flights at several airports in the region.

Meteorologists attribute the foggy conditions to a combination of low temperatures, high humidity levels, and calm winds, which are typical during the winter months in northern India. While such weather is not unusual, its intensity this year has caused significant logistical challenges.

Railway officials have implemented measures such as deploying fog-signal devices and alerting drivers to follow strict safety protocols. They have also appealed to passengers for patience and cooperation as they work to restore normalcy.

Travelers planning journeys over the next few days are advised to keep a close watch on weather forecasts and train schedules.
