New Delhi– After remaining non-operational for over a year, the ₹400 crore super specialty block at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital is expected to become functional in the coming months, officials said.
The new facility, designed to enhance advanced medical services, had faced delays due to regulatory and infrastructure-related issues. According to hospital authorities, most of the pending work — including staffing and internal arrangements — has now been completed.
Hospital director Dr L Shyam Singh, who assumed charge earlier this month, said making the block operational is a top priority. He noted that the scale of the project required careful execution of multiple technical and logistical details, contributing to the delay.
Earlier, the Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC) had withheld the mandatory clearance due to concerns over inadequate parking provisions and certain inconsistencies in the submitted plans. The commission pointed out that an approved multi-level parking design had not been properly incorporated.
Officials said the hospital has since addressed the issues flagged by the commission, including redesigning parking arrangements. A fresh request for clearance will be submitted soon, with authorities expressing confidence of approval.
Meanwhile, recruitment for medical and support staff has been accelerated to ensure smooth functioning once the block is launched.
The foundation stone for the project was laid in 2019, and it received formal approvals the following year. Once operational, the facility is expected to significantly boost the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised healthcare services.
