Bishkek, April 29, 2026: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Belarus in Bishkek, aimed at expanding defence cooperation and deepening strategic engagement among the participating nations.
The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Defence Ministers’ meeting, where India and partner countries exchanged views on enhancing military coordination and improving defence partnerships in areas of mutual interest.
During his meeting with Kyrgyzstan’s Defence Minister Major General Mukambetov Ruslan Mustafaevich, both sides explored ways to strengthen ongoing defence collaboration and reviewed opportunities for future engagement. India also handed over two Bhishm Aarogya Maitri Health Cube units designed for humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and search and rescue operations.
Separate discussions were also held with the defence ministers of Kazakhstan and Belarus, where the focus remained on boosting bilateral defence ties, improving interoperability and expanding cooperation in training and strategic communication.
Officials noted that the engagements reflect India’s continued emphasis on strengthening defence diplomacy and building closer ties with Central Asian and Eastern European partners under multilateral platforms like SCO, while also addressing broader regional security concerns.
