New Delhi- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday delivered a strong message against terrorism at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Defence Ministers’ Meeting held in Bishkek, asserting that India’s Operation Sindoor has shown that terror hubs are no longer beyond the reach of action.
Addressing member nations, Singh emphasised the need for a unified and uncompromising approach to eliminate terrorism, separatism, and extremism. He stated that countries supporting or sheltering terrorists must be held accountable, adding that double standards in dealing with terrorism weaken global efforts.
He underlined that terrorism cannot be justified under any circumstances, saying it has “no nationality and no theology,” and called on nations to collectively reject any political or strategic exceptions when dealing with such threats.
The Defence Minister highlighted that the SCO has a key responsibility in maintaining both regional and global peace, urging member states to take decisive steps against those providing safe havens to terrorists. He stressed that consistent action, rather than selective responses, is crucial to maintaining credibility in counter-terrorism efforts.
Referring to previous commitments, Singh noted that declarations adopted by SCO members reflect a shared resolve to combat radicalisation and extremism. He also pointed out that in a world facing increasing uncertainty and fragmentation, cooperation among nations is more important than ever.
Calling for a balanced global order, Singh said the focus should be on coexistence, mutual respect, and compassion rather than conflict and competition. He urged countries to prioritise dialogue and diplomacy over force, warning against allowing the current era to be defined by violence.
Reiterating India’s stance, he said the country remains committed to strengthening cooperation within the SCO framework and contributing to global peace efforts based on trust, equality, and shared responsibility.
