Rajiv Gandhi had envisioned the decentralization of power by granting constitutional status to the Panchayati Raj institutions:-Kumari Selja

Chandigarh, 7th, May, 2024 : The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister, former President of Haryana Congress, in charge of Uttarakhand, and candidate from Sirsa Lok Sabha seat for Congress (India Alliance) Kumari Selja said that the government has deprived all the rights of the village heads, hampering the development of villages, and weakening local bodies. On forming the Congress government, the rights of the village heads will be restored, and local bodies will be empowered as before. The entire debt of the country’s farmers will be waived off and support prices will be given legal status to strengthen them economically. She said that Congress’s guarantees will make this country and its people stronger. Kumari Selja started her electoral tour from the village of Dhanga in the Fatehabad Assembly constituency on Tuesday, where her workers welcomed her warmly. Addressing a meeting in the village of Badopal, Selja said that former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi was blessed with the ability to recognize the challenges and opportunities of our country as a nation.

He had envisioned the decentralization of power by granting constitutional status to the Panchayati Raj institutions. Rajiv Gandhi believed that with participation in government, infinite energy would be generated, which would bring revolutionary changes in the situation of the marginalized and weaker sections of society. He was the architect of the Panchayati Raj and Municipalities Bill. He also gave priority to efforts to deliver justice through Lok Adalats. He presented the 64th Constitution Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha in 1989 for local self-government. A decision was taken to reserve adequate powers, financial resources, and seats for women in Panchayats, three-tier Panchayats, and municipalities in rural and urban areas. She has said that the Bjp government has weakened Panchayats, three-tier Panchayats, and municipalities in rural and urban areas, but on forming the Congress government, the rights of the village heads will be restored, and local bodies will be empowered as before. Selja said that today, whether it is a farmer, a laborer, a youth, an employee, a poor person, or a Dalit, justice is being denied on the roads of the country, but no one is listening to their voice. Bjp, the party of empty promises, is ignoring the neglect every year.

The farmers have been agitating for two years, but instead of giving them their rights, false promises are being made to them in the name of power. Selja said that on forming the Congress government, the entire debt of the farmers will be waived off, and support prices will be given legal status. A debt waiver commission will be formed, along with the promise of GST-free farming. She said that if the food provider of the country becomes weak, then the country will also become weak. Where there is no respect for farmers, the people of the country long for food. She said that Congress has promised to empower women socially, economically, and politically, and what Congress says, it fulfills. Congress’s promises and announcements are not mere rhetoric; today, Bjp is a party of rhetoric. Selja said that the Mahalakshmi scheme has been initiated to provide one lakh rupees annually without condition to women from poor families. This amount will be sent to the bank account of the family’s elderly woman. If there is no elderly woman in the family, then the amount will be sent to the oldest member’s account. Fifty percent of the jobs in the central government will be reserved for women. The principle of equal work, equal pay will be implemented to stop discrimination in wages for women. The amount of institutional loans given to women will also be increased. On this occasion, former Deputy CM Chandra Mohan Bisht, former Minister Subhash Batra, former Minister Atar Singh Saini, former Minister Prof. Sampat Singh, former MP Charanjeet Singh Rori, former Balwant Singh Daulatpuria, former Chief Minister Prahlad Singh Gillakhera, former MLA Kuldeep Baniwal, Arvind Sharma, Navneet Godara, Dr. Veerendra Sivach, Dr. Vinit Punia, Surendra Vartiya, Lakshya Garg, Subhash Bisht, etc were present.
