New Delhi, March 16, 2024– Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Agriculture, and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Arjun Munda, marked a significant milestone in the preservation and promotion of tribal culture and heritage with two key initiatives launched virtually today.
In Padampur, Kharsawan district, Jharkhand, Minister Munda laid the foundation stone for a Rs. 10 crores project to establish a ‘Centre for Preservation and Promotion of Tribal Culture & Heritage’. Simultaneously, in New Delhi, he inaugurated the revamped National Tribal Museum, e-Library, and ST Girls’ hostel at Bharatiya Adim Jati Sevak Sanghathan (BAJSS), underscoring the government’s commitment to safeguarding India’s rich tribal heritage.
Addressing stakeholders via video conference, Minister Munda highlighted the government’s decade-long endeavor under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to foster development while preserving traditions and cultural heritage. The newly initiated center in Jharkhand aims to serve as a repository of tribal culture, history, and intangible heritage, with plans to evolve into a vibrant hub for artisans and tourism.
Meanwhile, the inauguration of the renovated National Tribal Museum and associated facilities in New Delhi signifies a vital step in conserving tribal artifacts and rare books. Established by social reformer Shri Amritlal Vithaldas Thakkar, BAJSS has been instrumental in empowering tribal communities since 1948. Minister Munda reiterated the government’s commitment to digitizing the library and reviving the museum, aligning with PM Modi’s vision of preserving India’s diverse heritage.
The ceremony also commemorated the signing of a crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI) in New Delhi and BAJSS on February 21, 2022. This partnership solidifies BAJSS’s role as a resource center for NTRI, further amplifying efforts to safeguard and promote India’s tribal legacy.
Minister Arjun Munda’s initiatives underscore the government’s dedication to preserving and celebrating India’s tribal heritage. With the launch of the ‘Centre for Preservation and Promotion of Tribal Culture & Heritage’ and the revitalization of the National Tribal Museum, the nation takes a significant stride towards ensuring the rich cultural tapestry of its tribal communities remains vibrant and accessible for generations to come.
