Washington, Mar 5, 2025: Former US President Donald Trump, during his address to Congress, revealed that he had received a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday. The letter conveyed Ukraine’s willingness to reengage in negotiations to achieve a lasting peace settlement.
“Earlier today, I received an important letter from President Zelenskyy of Ukraine,” Trump stated. He then read excerpts from the letter, quoting Zelenskyy as saying, ‘Ukraine is ready to return to the negotiating table at the earliest opportunity to bring lasting peace closer. No one desires peace more than the people of Ukraine… My team and I are prepared to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to achieve a peace that endures.’
Zelenskyy also extended gratitude to Washington for its continued support and assistance to Ukraine. Additionally, he expressed Ukraine’s readiness to sign agreements related to minerals and security at a time convenient for the US.
“Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time that suits you,” Trump read from the letter. “I appreciate that he sent this letter. I received it just a short while ago,” he added.
Trump further mentioned that along with Ukraine’s willingness for talks, there have been significant developments on the other side. “We have had serious discussions with Russia, and I have received strong signals that they, too, are open to peace,” he noted.
The revelation of Ukraine’s readiness for diplomatic talks, coupled with signals from Russia, has raised hopes for potential progress in resolving the ongoing conflict. However, the international community remains watchful as discussions unfold.
