New Delhi, Feb 10, 2025: the Police Families Welfare Society (PFWS) of Delhi Police celebrated the first anniversary of SMITA, a therapy centre for special children of Delhi Police personnel, at Malviya Nagar Police Colony. The event was graced, as the Chief Guest, by Smt. Sonal Shah, eminent educationist and social worker, who had inaugurated SMITA last year. The Chief Guest distributed token of affection and interacted with therapists and special children. She expressed immense satisfaction over the progress made over the past year at SMITA, resulting in much higher levels of self confidence in our special children.
Smt. Ritu Arora, President PFWS, highlighted SMITA’s commitment to redefining care for special children, focusing not just on therapy but on building supportive relationships. SMITA has grown from serving 20 children with three therapists in the beginning, to 52 children with six therapists on its first anniversary.
The event featured an audio-visual presentation, showcasing the centre’s milestones, followed by soul-stirring cultural performances by special children. Parents shared heartfelt stories of the positive impact of SMITA on their children’s daily lives.
Generous contributions from Sewa Bharti has provided special equipments for the children and MOUs were signed with Sahyog Care 4 U and BSES to fund salaries of therapists for one year, ensuring continuous care. An additional MoU was exchanged with IACT Education Pvt. Ltd., which will provide English classes for police families.
Our respected donors and facilitators, Sh. Sushil Gupta, from ‘Sewa Bharti’; Sh. Shekahr Mahajan, founder, NGO, ‘Sahyog Care 4 U’; Sh. Amal Sinha, executive director, BSES; Sh. Deepak Shankar, senior executive and vice president, BSES; and Sh. Anshul Pandit, chairman, Pratham Foundation Trust, were felicitated by the Chief Guest for their valuable contributions and support.
The Chief Guest, Smt. Sonal Shah, described ‘Smita-Therapy Centre’ as the opportunity for the special children to thrive, overcoming challenges, developing new skills, and discovering their potential. She appreciated the team of therapists and staff members at the centre and congratulated PFWS and the team for their unwavering support extended towards the police families.
