New Delhi, Feb 7, 2025: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday engaged in discussions with visiting Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, focusing on the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) and bolstering India-Mediterranean connectivity.
In a post on X, EAM Jaishankar stated that their dialogue also encompassed key areas such as shipping, trade and investment, mobility, artificial intelligence, and cultural exchanges.
“Glad to meet my friend, FM George Gerapetritis of Greece, this evening in Delhi.
“Had a very fruitful discussion on strengthening our multifaceted partnership, covering shipping, trade & investment, connectivity, mobility, AI, and cultural cooperation.
“Additionally, we exchanged views on IMEC and India-Mediterranean connectivity, which will be a significant focus in the next phase of our bilateral relations.
“Appreciate his insights on recent regional developments.
“Assured India’s full support for Greece’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UNSC for 2025-26.”
According to the Greek Foreign Ministry, the expanded discussions between FM George Gerapetritis and EAM Jaishankar centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, shipping, and investments, with both sides committing to deeper collaboration during Greece’s tenure in the UNSC.
The Greek FM emphasized the geostrategic significance of the IMEEC initiative and Greece’s role as Europe’s natural gateway.
As India and Greece mark 75 years of diplomatic ties, the two ministers agreed to promote people-to-people diplomacy through education, culture, and tourism. Additionally, the Greek FM reiterated Greece’s commitment to establishing two new Consulates in Mumbai and Bangalore.
