With voting now concluded, the fate of 699 candidates, including key political figures, remains sealed in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Among the prominent candidates in the fray are Delhi Chief Minister Aatishi, AAP’s national convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and ex-Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. BJP leaders such as Parvesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri, along with senior Congress members Sandeep Dikshit and Alka Lamba, are also among those contesting for a seat in the assembly.
The voting day witnessed a vibrant atmosphere, with polling commencing at 7 a.m. Voters across the national capital exercised their franchise with enthusiasm, reflecting the significance of the election for Delhi’s future governance. The process saw a diverse turnout, with first-time voters, elderly citizens, and people from all walks of life making their way to polling booths.
Several high-profile leaders and political figures were seen casting their votes, further emphasizing the importance of the election. Union Ministers S. Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi, as well as AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Aatishi, and Manish Sisodia, exercised their democratic rights. BJP leaders Manoj Tiwari, Virendra Sachdeva, and Praveen Khandelwal were also among the notable personalities seen at polling stations.
The political landscape in Delhi remains dynamic, with parties making last-minute efforts to consolidate their support bases. While AAP has been emphasizing its governance record, particularly in education, healthcare, and free electricity and water schemes, BJP has campaigned aggressively on law and order, nationalism, and infrastructure development. The Congress, though seen as a lesser force in this election, has sought to regain lost ground.
The final verdict will be revealed on Saturday, February 8, when the votes will be counted. The results are expected to shape the future leadership of Delhi and influence the political discourse in the national capital for the coming years.
