Bhubaneswar, Jan 9, 2025: “Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has evolved into a key platform to deepen the bond between India and its global diaspora,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated. Inaugurating the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention at Janata Maidan on Thursday, Modi underscored the illustrious legacy of the Indian diaspora worldwide, highlighting their accomplishments as a vital part of India’s identity. He encouraged that these inspiring narratives be shared, celebrated, and preserved as a collective legacy.
The Prime Minister remarked, “Together, we honor India, our culture, and our progress while staying connected to our heritage. “Welcoming participants and delegates from across the globe, Modi expressed confidence that the event’s inaugural song would resonate at numerous Indian diaspora gatherings worldwide. He praised Grammy-winning artist Ricky Kej and his team for their composition, which encapsulates the emotions of the Indian diaspora. Modi reiterated his view of the diaspora as India’s ambassadors to the world. Sharing his joy in interacting with fellow Indians worldwide, Modi said the affection and blessings he receives from them leave an indelible impression on him. He extended his gratitude to the Indian diaspora, acknowledging their role in bringing global recognition to India . Highlighting his interactions with global leaders over the past decade, Modi noted their appreciation of the Indian diaspora’s social values and contributions.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the comfort and well-being of the Indian diaspora remain a top priority. “India is committed to assisting its diaspora during crises, reflecting a fundamental aspect of our foreign policy,” he affirmed. Modi acknowledged the diaspora’s contribution to India’s independence in 1947 and noted their continued role in driving the nation’s progress, citing India’s position as the world’s top recipient of remittances. He pointed out the benefits of the GIFT CITY ecosystem in catering to the diaspora’s financial and investment needs, urging them to leverage these opportunities to support India’s development.”Every effort by the diaspora contributes to India’s growth,” the Prime Minister stated. He highlighted the potential of heritage tourism, emphasizing that India’s essence extends beyond major cities to include smaller towns and villages, rich in culture and tradition.
The Prime Minister encouraged the diaspora to connect the world with India’s heritage by visiting less-explored areas and sharing their experiences. He called on them to bring at least five non-Indian friends during their next visit to India, inspiring them to discover and appreciate the country. Modi urged young members of the diaspora to participate in the “Bharat Ko Janiye” quiz to deepen their knowledge of India. He stressed the importance of sharing India’s true history with the world, particularly in countries where the diaspora resides. “Many people may not know about India’s ancient prosperity, long struggles, and resilience,” he said, urging the diaspora to educate others about the nation’s true history.
“India is now recognized as a global friend,” the Prime Minister declared, urging the diaspora to further enhance this connection through their efforts. He suggested organizing award ceremonies in their countries to honor local individuals in fields such as literature, arts, cinema, and theater, supported by Indian embassies and consulates. Modi encouraged the diaspora to promote Indian products internationally by purchasing “Made in India” goods and integrating them into their daily lives. He remarked that this small act could make a significant contribution toward building a developed India.
