New Delhi, July 15, 2024 – In response to the recent shooting incident at GTB Hospital, a delegation from the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) met with Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj. The meeting, attended by senior health officials, resulted in assurances of enhanced security measures to create a safer working environment for doctors and improve patient care.
During the meeting, Minister Bharadwaj addressed the concerns raised by the FAIMA delegation, led by the National Chairman, National General Secretary, and Chief Advisor. The Minister assured the following measures:
- Installation of Metal Detectors: Metal detectors will be installed at emergency entries of hospitals to prevent the entry of weapons.
- Deployment of Armed Guards: Two armed guards will be stationed at the emergency entries of major hospitals to ensure safety.
- Police Presence: The Minister will request the Police Commissioner to assign one police constable to be on duty round the clock at hospitals.
- Review of SOPs: The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of hospitals will be reviewed to enhance security protocols.
- Legal Action: Strict legal action will be taken against assaulters in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
- CCTV Installation and Maintenance: CCTV cameras will be installed and maintained at hospitals to monitor and ensure security.

Minister Bharadwaj emphasized that these proactive measures will create a safer working environment for doctors, ultimately benefiting patient care. He expressed his condolences to the family affected by the incident and described it as unfortunate. “The safety and security of Delhiites and our doctors is paramount. We will also take up the matter with police authorities and the Central Government,” he stated.
This initiative reflects the Delhi government’s commitment to addressing security concerns and ensuring a safe environment for healthcare professionals and patients alike.
