New Delhi, June 3: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia will undertake a two-day official visit to Shillong, Meghalaya, beginning today, to participate in key meetings focused on the development of the North Eastern Region.
During the visit, the Minister will attend the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC), scheduled to be held at the State Convention Centre in Shillong on June 4. The session will be chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, who also serves as the Chairman of the Council.
The plenary session will deliberate on a wide range of issues related to the holistic development of the North East, including strengthening regional connectivity, improving infrastructure, promoting economic growth, and enhancing coordination among the eight North Eastern states.

According to officials, the discussions are expected to focus on accelerating ongoing development initiatives and identifying new strategies to promote inclusive and sustainable growth across the region. The NEC continues to serve as a key platform for cooperative federalism and regional planning in the North East.
During the visit, Scindia will also participate in a separate meeting related to the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC). The discussions will explore the use of space-based technologies and advanced geospatial tools to support development planning, disaster management, agriculture, and infrastructure development in the region.

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region has been implementing multiple initiatives aimed at boosting connectivity, tourism, agriculture, skill development, and economic opportunities across the eight states of the region.
Officials said the visit reflects the government’s continued focus on leveraging technology, improving infrastructure, and strengthening institutional coordination to drive balanced and inclusive growth in the North Eastern Region.
