China to Assist Travel of 1000 Indian Pilgrims for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

China to Facilitate Travel of 1,000 Indian Pilgrims for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026

New Delhi, May 1, 2026: China will facilitate the travel of around 1,000 Indian pilgrims for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra this year, marking a continued easing in pilgrimage movement between the two countries, according to official reports.

The development comes as part of ongoing arrangements between India and China to support the annual pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in Tibet, which holds deep spiritual significance for followers of multiple faiths including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon traditions.

Officials have indicated that the 2026 pilgrimage will see an expanded participation limit compared to previous years, with around 1,000 Indian devotees expected to be selected for the journey. This reflects an increase in approved numbers and improved coordination between both sides for managing travel logistics and permits.

The Yatra, which typically takes place between June and August, is being organized through established diplomatic and administrative channels involving the Ministry of External Affairs and Chinese authorities. The arrangement includes regulated batches of pilgrims traveling through designated routes under strict safety, health, and documentation protocols.

Recent updates also show that the pilgrimage has been steadily resuming after earlier disruptions, with both nations working to restore and streamline cross border religious travel. The move is seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen people to people ties and cultural exchanges between India and China.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra remains one of the most significant spiritual journeys for Indian pilgrims and its continuation highlights ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two countries in facilitating religious tourism under structured frameworks.
