Manohar Lal launches Central Vista Metro work, boosting connectivity across key Delhi corridors.

NEW DELHI, 24 JUNE: Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal on Wednesday inaugurated the commencement of construction work at the Central Secretariat Metro Station for the upcoming Central Vista Corridor, marking a significant milestone in Delhi’s metro expansion plans.

Describing the occasion as a historic step for the national capital, the minister said the project would greatly improve connectivity and provide faster, more efficient commuting options for government employees, professionals, and the general public. He emphasized that the corridor would strengthen Delhi’s public transport infrastructure and reduce dependence on road-based travel.

The new metro corridor will run from RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha and include a station at Shivaji Stadium. According to the minister, once the project is completed, commuters will benefit from seamless connectivity between Janakpuri West and Indralok, creating a comprehensive transit loop across key parts of the city.

The Central Secretariat station is being developed under Phase V (A) of the Delhi Metro expansion project as an extension of the existing Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg. Upon completion, it will become a major triple interchange station, allowing passengers to switch conveniently between the new Magenta Line station and the existing Yellow and Violet Lines.

Officials said the corridor will span more than nine kilometres and feature nine underground stations equipped with modern passenger amenities. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve accessibility to important government offices, commercial centres, and residential areas.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to use advanced engineering and tunnelling technologies to ensure safe and efficient construction with minimal disruption to traffic and daily activities. Authorities believe the project will encourage greater use of public transport, helping reduce congestion and pollution in the capital.

Once operational, the Central Vista Corridor is expected to emerge as a key component of Delhi’s expanding metro network, offering enhanced mobility and improved connectivity for millions of commuters across the city.
