Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Alleges Political Motive Behind ED Raids on AAP Leaders

Says action signals BJP’s preparations for 2027 Assembly elections

Chandigarh, April 17, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Centre following Enforcement Directorate action against Aam Aadmi Party leaders, claiming the raids are politically driven and linked to upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Reacting to the searches conducted at the premises of Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora and earlier actions against Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Kumar Mittal, Mann alleged that central agencies are being used to intimidate opposition leaders.

He said the timing of these raids indicates that the BJP has already begun strategising for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. According to Mann, such actions are intended to pressure political opponents, weaken the ruling party in the state, and influence the electoral landscape.

The Chief Minister further accused the Centre of misusing investigative agencies, stating that only non BJP governments are being targeted. He also claimed that such tactics are aimed at forcing leaders either to withdraw from politics or switch sides.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate action is part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities linked to individuals associated with AAP. Officials maintain that the raids are being carried out as per legal procedures, while political reactions continue to intensify across parties.

The development has triggered a fresh political confrontation in Punjab, with AAP calling it a case of political vendetta, while BJP leaders have defended the probe as a lawful anti corruption exercise.
