Raveena Tandon, Vir Das Welcome Supreme Court’s Revised Order on Stray Dogs

Mumbai (Maharashtra), August 23 : Actor Raveena Tandon and comedian Vir Das have welcomed the Supreme Court’s revised order on stray dogs, which allows them to return to their neighbourhoods after sterilisation and vaccination, except in cases where they are infected with rabies or show aggressive behaviour.

Taking to Instagram, Raveena Tandon expressed relief over the verdict, saying that “better sense has prevailed.” She also urged authorities to ensure that funds allocated for sterilisation and vaccination programmes are used effectively.
“Dogesh bhai! Tum aage bahdo! Hum Tumhare saath hain! Better sense has prevailed. Thank you #cji #supremecourt. Now make sure the programmes and funds allocated for vaccinations and sterilisation are implemented correctly,” she wrote.

Comedian Vir Das also shared his views on X, emphasising the importance of sterilisation, vaccination, and safe return of community dogs. He further urged municipalities to create dedicated feeding zones and collaborate with trainers and behaviourists for behavioural modification and community integration.
“Thank you to the Supreme Court of India for supporting the process of sterilisation, vaccination, and a safe return of our community dogs. Hopefully, the municipality can act quickly in creating dedicated feeding areas and also work with multiple dog trainers and behaviourists in Delhi and nationwide for behavioural modification and community integration. It is nice to know our voiceless dogs can rely on your empathy and balance,” he wrote.

On Friday, the Supreme Court revised its earlier August 11 order on stray animals. The apex court directed that stray dogs should be released back to their localities after sterilisation and immunisation, while those infected with rabies or showing aggressive behaviour will be kept separately.

The court also prohibited public feeding of stray dogs, instead directing the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to create dedicated feeding areas in every municipal ward. Additionally, it clarified that animal lovers can apply to the MCD for adoption of community dogs.

The order is being seen as a significant step in balancing animal welfare with community safety.
