Keshav Chandra Assumes Charge as Secretary of Ministry of Mines
Newly appointed Secretary reviews key programmes, including mineral exploration, critical minerals and operationalisation of mining blocks.

Senior IAS officer Keshav Chandra on Monday officially took charge as the Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, marking the beginning of his tenure in the key administrative role.
Soon after assuming office, Chandra chaired his first review meeting with senior officials of the Ministry to assess the progress of ongoing programmes and discuss priorities for the mining sector.
During the meeting, officials briefed the new Secretary on several major initiatives, including mineral exploration, the auction and operationalisation of mineral blocks, development of critical and strategic minerals, and other projects aimed at strengthening India’s mining ecosystem.
Chandra stressed the need for better coordination among departments and timely execution of government initiatives to improve the efficiency and growth of the country’s mineral sector. He also underscored the importance of effective implementation of ongoing programmes to support India’s long-term resource security and industrial development.
A 1995-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Keshav Chandra brings extensive administrative experience to the Ministry as it continues to focus on enhancing mineral production, securing critical mineral resources and promoting sustainable growth in the mining industry.
