Union Minister Scindia emphasized that laying the foundation stone for the new defence manufacturing facility in Shivpuri was a matter of immense pride, as contributing to India’s defence capabilities has long been part of the Scindia family’s historical legacy.

Scindia noted that during the reign of Mahadji Scindia, ordnance factories and armouries were established in Mathura, Delhi, Gwalior, Kalpi and Gohad. Scindia further recalled that the Jiwaji Industrial Research Laboratory (JIRL), established in Gwalior by Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia, was later dedicated to the Ministry of Defence and subsequently evolved into the Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE), which continues to play a significant role in India’s defence research and development.
