Technology entrepreneur and Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani has been entrusted with leading the Union government‘s newly constituted high-level task force on examination reforms. The panel has been formed following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of a nationwide initiative to make public examinations more secure, transparent and technology-driven.
Widely recognised as one of the architects of India’s digital transformation, Nilekani played a key role in building Infosys into a global IT company before taking up major public policy assignments. His experience in combining technology with governance has made him one of the country’s most influential voices on digital public infrastructure.
Between 2009 and 2014, Nilekani served as the founding Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), where he spearheaded the rollout of the Aadhaar programme. During his tenure, he held the rank of a Cabinet Minister and oversaw the creation of the world’s largest biometric identity platform, laying the foundation for several digital governance initiatives that followed.
The newly formed task force is expected to recommend structural and technological reforms aimed at strengthening the integrity of India’s examination system. The panel will examine ways to prevent paper leaks, improve transparency, modernise the National Testing Agency (NTA), and enhance the credibility of competitive examinations through advanced digital solutions.
The government believes Nilekani’s expertise in implementing large-scale technology projects and digital governance reforms will help create a more reliable, efficient and future-ready examination framework for students across the country.
