Ex Haryana Dy CM Dushyant Chautala Backs Sonam Wangchuk’s Protest, Urges Wider Support for Education Reforms

JJP extends support to Wangchuk's hunger strike at Jantar Mantar; backs July 20 Parliament march, voices concern over activist's health

New Delhi: Former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Friday extended the Jananayak Janata Party’s (JJP) support to social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar demanding reforms in the education sector. Accompanied by JJP Youth State President Digvijay Singh Chautala and senior party leaders, Dushyant met Wangchuk at the protest site, enquired about his health and expressed concern over his deteriorating condition after 20 days of fasting. The delegation presented portraits of Jannayak Chaudhary Devi Lal and Dr B.R. Ambedkar, along with a commemorative book, as a gesture of solidarity.

Addressing the media, Dushyant Chautala said the movement would achieve its objective and urged Sonam Wangchuk to end his fast in view of his health, stressing that strong leadership was essential for sustaining a people’s movement. He appealed to citizens, particularly the youth, to support Wangchuk’s campaign for education reforms and strengthen the fight for the future of students.

Digvijay Singh Chautala described Sonam Wangchuk’s demands as justified and announced JJP’s full support for the proposed Parliament march on July 20. He criticised the government over its response to the protest and alleged that despite Wangchuk’s worsening health, the concerns raised by the movement had not received the attention they deserved. Several senior JJP leaders, including National General Secretary Devender Kadiyan, Delhi unit president Dinesh Dagar and INSO State President Deepak Malik, were also present.
