Rairangpur, Odisha, June 20: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth ₹47,600 crore in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Saturday. The event marked the completion of two years of the Odisha government led by Mohan Charan Majhi.
The leaders inaugurated 60 projects and laid foundation stones for 12 new projects spanning energy, industrial infrastructure, roads, drinking water, healthcare, education, tourism and irrigation. The initiatives are expected to strengthen connectivity and accelerate economic growth across the state.
Addressing the gathering in Rairangpur, President Murmu said development becomes meaningful only when its benefits reach every village, family and citizen.
She said the newly launched projects represent a commitment to social justice, equal opportunities and inclusive growth. The President emphasized that improving human development indicators in tribal regions, remote areas and aspirational districts remains a key national priority.
According to her, the projects will open a new chapter of development for Odisha and particularly for the tribal-dominated regions of the state.
President Murmu praised the efforts of both the Centre and the Odisha government in promoting tribal welfare and preserving indigenous culture.
She highlighted initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Van-Dhan Yojana, tribal women empowerment schemes, the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, and the establishment of Eklavya Model Residential Schools for quality education among tribal children.
The President also noted that tribal museums and the celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas are helping preserve and promote tribal heritage across the country.
President Murmu congratulated Prime Minister Modi for becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history. She said India’s global stature has risen significantly under his leadership.
The President noted that India demonstrated its capabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic and has consistently advocated peace and dialogue amid global conflicts.
She expressed confidence that Modi’s vision would help India achieve the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Prime Minister Modi extended birthday wishes to President Murmu and described his visit to her native region as a memorable experience.
During the event, he announced that Pahadpur village would be developed as a Solar Village (Surya Gram). He also congratulated the Odisha government on completing two years in office and appreciated its efforts in promoting sanitation and development.
The Prime Minister remarked that while Odisha is celebrating traditional festivals such as Raja Parba and preparing for the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra, the state is also witnessing a “festival of development” through major infrastructure and welfare initiatives.
President Murmu congratulated the Odisha government for its achievements over the past two years, noting rapid progress in industrial growth, port development, transport infrastructure and women’s empowerment.
She said the combined efforts of the state and central governments have ushered in a new era of development and welfare, especially for Odisha’s tribal communities.
