PM Modi to Launch ₹6,350-Crore Projects in Varanasi, Inaugurate Ganga Expressway in Hardoi

Two-day UP visit to focus on infrastructure, connectivity and welfare initiatives across key regions

Varanasi- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh starting April 28, during which he will unveil development projects worth ₹6,350 crore in Varanasi and inaugurate the ambitious Ganga Expressway in Hardoi.

On the first day, the Prime Minister will address a public gathering and participate in a Mahila Sammelan, alongside senior leaders including Yogi Adityanath. During the event, he will dedicate over 48 completed projects worth more than ₹1,050 crore, covering key sectors such as road infrastructure, rail connectivity, and urban development.

Major works include the widening of the Varanasi-Azamgarh road, inauguration of rail overbridges, and a new sewage treatment facility. Several community-focused initiatives—such as rural drinking water schemes, redevelopment of ghats, and tourism upgrades near Sarnath—are also part of the programme.

Additionally, foundation stones will be laid for over 100 projects valued at around ₹5,300 crore. These include healthcare infrastructure like a multi-specialty hospital, sewerage and water supply schemes under AMRUT 2.0, and development of public facilities and tourism hubs at prominent ghats.

The Prime Minister will also flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains connecting Banaras to Pune and Ayodhya to Mumbai, aimed at enhancing affordable long-distance travel.

On April 29, Modi is scheduled to visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple for pooja and later travel to Hardoi to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway. Stretching approximately 594 kilometres, the six-lane (expandable to eight) expressway is a major greenfield corridor designed to boost connectivity across 12 districts in Uttar Pradesh.

Built at an estimated cost of over ₹36,000 crore, the expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time, strengthen logistics, and improve economic linkages between western, central, and eastern parts of the state.
