Kanpur: A shocking case has emerged from Kanpur, where a 45-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his 11-year-old twin daughters inside their apartment before informing police about the crime himself, officials said.
Police said officers responded to an emergency call made by the accused in the early hours of Sunday and found the two girls dead inside the residence in Kidwai Nagar. A knife believed to have been used in the incident was recovered from the scene, and the suspect was taken into custody.
Investigators said the motive remains unclear, but police are examining whether mental health issues or emotional distress may have played a role. Officials said the accused’s recent behaviour, medical history and access to medicines are all part of the ongoing investigation.
According to police, the children’s mother was in another part of the home and was unaware of the incident until officers arrived. Her statement, along with CCTV footage and forensic evidence, is being reviewed to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Forensic teams are also probing whether the children may have been incapacitated before the attack, while investigators continue to analyse material recovered from the apartment, including medicines and surveillance equipment.
Police said the case remains under investigation, with further inquiries focused on motive, mental condition and forensic findings.
