New Delhi : Delhi’s Minister for Social Welfare and SC/ST/OBC Welfare, Ravinder Indraj Singh, while interacting with the media at the Delhi Secretariat today, said that a series of programmes will begin from April 10 and continue till April 14. All these programmes will be dedicated to the 136th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

He invited all citizens to participate, stating that this year Baba Saheb’s birth anniversary will be celebrated in Delhi in a grand and enthusiastic manner. A major highlight will be the “Bhim Jyoti Utsav” to be organised near India Gate, in the Kasturba Gandhi Marg area, where rich literature related to Baba Saheb and important aspects of his life will be displayed through a special gallery.

He informed that visitors will get an opportunity to explore and understand various aspects of Baba Saheb’s life, thoughts and struggles. In addition, several folk-cultural programmes, performances and diverse activities will be organised to take his ideas to the masses.

Ravinder Indraj Singh said that the platform will reflect the spirit of national harmony. Saints, social workers, intellectuals and individuals working towards unity and social cohesion from across the country will participate in the event. He emphasised that Baba Saheb’s core message was “Nation First” and that he always prioritised national interest.

He further stated that this mega festival, to be organised from April 10 to April 14, will serve as a true tribute to Baba Saheb. He urged the public to participate in large numbers and become part of this historic celebration.

He added that while different opinions may arise on various issues from time to time, the nation remains united in its respect for Baba Saheb and his ideals. This event will symbolise that unity and harmony.

He also informed that under “Bhim Jyoti Utsav – 2026”, large-scale programmes will be organised across various locations in the capital, ensuring participation from all sections of society. This event is not just a celebration but a powerful campaign to spread Baba Saheb’s thoughts, the core values of the Constitution and the message of social harmony.

The programme series will include floral tributes, public participation activities, the “Constitution Fest”, exhibitions, awareness campaigns, cultural performances, walkathons, interactive sessions, workshops, quiz competitions and art exhibitions. These activities aim to educate youth and students about the Constitution, their rights and duties.

The “Constitution Fest” will be a key attraction, featuring exhibition stalls showcasing various welfare schemes of the department such as scholarships, pensions, schemes for persons with disabilities and skill development programmes. An interactive digital wall will also present a timeline of Baba Saheb’s life and the making of the Constitution.

Cultural programmes will include Ambedkarite folk songs by traditional groups, theatrical performances based on Baba Saheb’s life and ideas, and presentations by residents of institutions under the Social Welfare Department and voluntary organisations. The installation of “Bhim Jyoti” will be a special highlight, symbolising the light of knowledge through a unique light installation.

Ravinder Indraj Singh also stated that certain elements attempt to create disorder in society and misrepresent such initiatives. However, it is clear that in recent years the country has progressed in line with Baba Saheb’s vision. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is moving forward in that direction.

He added that while Baba Saheb did not receive due recognition earlier, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee honoured him by installing his portrait in Parliament. Subsequently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi further strengthened his legacy through the development of the “Panchteerth”.

He said that various ongoing schemes in the country reflect the spirit of Antyodaya and are dedicated to the upliftment of marginalised communities, which is a true tribute to Baba Saheb.

On the issue of UGC, he stated that the country is progressing rapidly on the path of harmony and development, with society moving forward with a positive outlook.

He informed that invitations have been sent to all and that this is a people-centric programme in which participation from every citizen is important.

The Minister further stated that a special gallery will be set up featuring a list of 299 prominent individuals, along with literature and important information about their contributions. Detailed information on constitutional rules, Acts and provisions will also be displayed.

This initiative will help the younger generation understand the features of the Constitution and the rights granted to citizens.

Through cultural programmes, Baba Saheb’s life, struggles and ideas will be effectively presented.

In conclusion, Ravinder Indraj Singh appealed to the people of Delhi to participate in large numbers and contribute towards building a harmonious and empowered society by adopting Baba Saheb’s ideals.
