Minister of State Savitri Thakur Highlights Expansion of SHe Box Portal for Workplace Safety

Minister of State Savitri Thakur outlines progress in implementing workplace harassment law through digital platform

New Delhi, April 1, 2026: Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur on Tuesday informed the Rajya Sabha about the growing reach of the Sexual Harassment Electronic Box portal, a key initiative aimed at strengthening the enforcement of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013 across the country.

The portal, developed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, was introduced in August 2024 to provide a centralized digital system for monitoring workplace compliance and addressing complaints related to harassment. According to the latest data, more than 1.61 lakh organisations with over ten employees have been registered, with thousands of Internal Committees and hundreds of district level Local Committees already mapped on the platform.

To widen participation and ensure better compliance, the ministry has been working closely with multiple government bodies and institutions, including Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Ministry of Labour and Employment, along with professional and industry groups. These efforts are aligned with directions issued by the Supreme Court of India in connection with a landmark case related to workplace safety.

The court, through a series of orders between 2024 and 2026, instructed state authorities to carry out detailed surveys of organisations to ensure proper constitution of Internal Committees under the law. It also directed that verified data be uploaded onto the portal to improve transparency and accountability.

The ministry, acting as the nodal authority, has been organising training sessions and consultations in both online and offline formats to assist government departments and private entities in adopting the system. These initiatives aim to resolve operational challenges and accelerate registrations on the platform.

In a step to improve accessibility, the portal has been integrated with the Mission Shakti app, making it easier for users to access services through mobile devices. The platform supports 23 languages, ensuring inclusivity for users from diverse backgrounds, including those in remote areas.

States and Union Territories have also been urged to strengthen grassroots mechanisms by ensuring the availability of Local Committees in every district and appointing nodal officers to assist women, particularly in the unorganised sector.

Alongside digital expansion, awareness campaigns are being actively conducted through social media platforms such as X, Facebook and Instagram, while the portal hosts a wide range of educational materials to guide organisations and individuals on compliance and rights under the law.
