Rohtak– The 25th edition of the Bharat Rang Mahotsav (Bharangam), organized by the National School of Drama (NSD) at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLCSUPVA), and the university’s own ‘Sarang’ festival concluded on Thursday with a colourful program. Many prominent personalities graced the grand concluding ceremony of this four-day festival of music, acting, and spectacular performances. On the occasion, Padma Shri awardee and renowned folk singer Malini Awasthi enthralled the audience with her songs in the Awadhi language, making them sway to her tunes. She was joined by ‘Na Aana Is Desh Lado’ fame actress Meghna Malik, Bollywood actor Sunil Chitkara, actor Vikram Kochhar, and Sansani fame Shrivardhan Trivedi as the key attendees. The university’s Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya and Registrar Dr. Gunjan Malik Manocha welcomed and honoured the guests.

In the closing session, Malini Awasthi gave a brilliant performance of the acting that takes place during the songs sung by women in weddings in Purvanchal, saying that our grandmothers, maternal grandmothers, and elderly women have not formally learned acting, yet they express the moods of laughter and tears on wedding songs in a very impressive way. Their acting is not artificial; it comes from the soul and expression. She advised the students to learn from this. During her talk, as soon as she performed the song ‘Nakhre Wali Banno Aayi Piya,’ all the audience were compelled to sway along. Actress Meghna Malik could not stop herself either and came on stage to dance. During the four-day ‘Bharangam,’ four plays from Delhi, Punjab, and Sri Lanka were staged. On behalf of NSD, 107 people came to the university to participate in these plays, including artists, technicians, musicians, and other staff members. Meanwhile, during the ‘Sarang’ festival, performances of theatre, music, dance, poetry recitation, folk dance, and discussion sessions were organized. Artists showcased glimpses of the art and culture from different states of the country. Additionally, 50 students from DLCSUPVA also performed on stage. The students presented Kathak, Bharatanatyam, theatre, body movement theatre, Bhangra, Qawwali, and music performances. To make the event successful, more than 60 volunteers and entire SUPVA family of the university contributed.

The atmosphere at SUPVA resembled NSD – Malini Awasthi
During the closing ceremony, folk singer Malini Awasthi said that the way Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya has sown the seeds of art on the land of SUPVA and nurtured and guarded it is magnificent. Coming to the SUPVA campus, I felt as if I had reached NSD. I am grateful to them for inviting me to this grand event. She told the students that music and acting are interconnected. If acting is removed, music loses its essence as well. The songs performed by women during weddings in our rural areas are examples of this. She encouraged the students to bring out their own expressions.

Theatre is a complete art in itself – Shrivardhan Trivedi
Sansani fame anchor and theatre artist Shrivardhan Trivedi said that SUPVA has organized a wonderful event and I hope that such events continue to happen in the future. Because this is the need of this field and time. I hope that DLCSUPVA will take this event to remote areas as well, so that even those people who are unable to reach here due to lack of resources can access this kind of education. There is a lot of talent around us; they just need the right direction and guidance.

What could be more beautiful than having SUPVA in a city – Meghna Malik
Actress Meghna Malik said that earlier, there was only one name in acting institutes, NSD, and even about it, most people didn’t have much information. But today, an institution like SUPVA is in your city, around you, and nothing can be more wonderful than this. You get to see such a magnificent building and such beautiful colours here, and this event is amazing. I want to tell the students to hold on to their teachers and gain as much knowledge from them as possible.

The Confluence of Culture is Necessary – Vikram Kochar
Film actor Vikram Kochar said that before doing anything, it is important to ensure what you really want to do. You need to make a final decision. It is essential to love the work you are doing. If you like it, you will get results and be able to reach your destination. He advised students that there is no need to stay in one place currently. One should always keep bringing change within oneself.

This celebration has been a moment of pride – Dr. Amit Arya
Dr. Amit Arya, Vice-Chancellor of DLCSUPVA, said that it is a matter of pride for our institution that the National School of Drama chose us to host the 25th edition of ‘Bharangam’, and we made every possible effort to make this event a success. All members of the university campus gave their full support to this successful event. I learned that the ‘Sarang’ festival had ended quite some time ago, so we resolved to revive it. It is a matter of joy that we have brought such a magnificent event back to life. In the future, the university will continue to organize such large-scale events, and a complete roadmap is being prepared for it.
