New Delhi | January 30- The Ministry of Culture secured two major recognitions at the Republic Day Parade 2026, earning top distinction for both its themed tableau and its large-scale cultural performance celebrating the legacy of Vande Mataram.
The ministry’s tableau, titled “Vande Mataram – 150 Years Journey,” was awarded First Prize among entries presented by Central Ministries and Departments. The display artistically narrated the historic evolution of Vande Mataram, illustrating how the song emerged as a powerful symbol of national awakening and went on to play a defining role during India’s freedom struggle. Through striking imagery and symbolic storytelling, the tableau underscored the song’s continuing importance in shaping India’s unity and cultural identity.

In addition to this achievement, the cultural dance production “Vande Mataram: The Eternal Resonance of Bharat” received a Special Prize for its artistic depth and thematic presentation. The performance was conceptualized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in partnership with the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala.
The grand showcase paid tribute to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, whose composition became a rallying call during India’s independence movement. A remarkable ensemble of nearly 2,500 performers representing every State and Union Territory came together, presenting a vibrant blend of classical, folk, and tribal traditions that reflected the nation’s rich cultural diversity.

The choreography traced India’s civilizational journey — from its spiritual foundations and cultural heritage to the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the dedication of the armed forces. The production integrated Sanskrit chants, stirring music, and elaborate formations, culminating in a visual salute to the Indian tricolour as a symbol of unity and national pride.
The creative vision for the performance was overseen by Dr. Sandhya Purecha, Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi. Musical direction was led by Academy Award-winning composer M. M. Keeravani, with supplementary lyrics by Subhas Sehgal. The narration was delivered by National Award-winning actor Anupam Kher, choreography was designed by Santosh Nair, and costumes were crafted by designer Sandhya Raman.
The dual recognition highlights the Ministry of Culture’s efforts to present India’s heritage and patriotic spirit on a grand national platform.
