Women Initially Denied Voting in Patna Due to Voter Slip Misunderstanding

The Patna District Administration later clarified that slips are not mandatory, ensuring both women cast their votes.

Patna, November 6, 2025: An unusual incident occurred during the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections on Thursday, when two women voters in Patna’s Digha constituency were initially denied entry into a polling booth despite carrying valid Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs).

According to reports, polling officials insisted on printed voter information slips, even though Booth Level Officers (BLOs) had distributed the slips digitally. The confusion temporarily prevented the women from casting their votes.

After the matter was raised, the Patna District Administration intervened, clarifying that voter slips are not mandatory for identification. Officials stated that EPICs or any other government-approved identity documents are sufficient for voter verification. The women were subsequently allowed to vote.

The brief incident highlighted communication gaps in implementing digital voter systems, but polling across Patna and nearby regions continued smoothly. As per Election Commission data, voter turnout stood at 42.31% by 1 p.m.
