Delhi Police Launches “Mission Reconnect 2.0” to Return Stolen Mobile Phones to Owners

Over 350 stolen/lost phones worth Rs. 50 Lakh recovered across 15 states

Delhi, 27 September 2025: The Delhi Police Metro Unit has successfully launched “Mission Reconnect 2.0 – Your Phone’s Journey Back Home”, a landmark initiative aimed at recovering and returning stolen or lost mobile phones to their rightful owners. Since June 2025, the mission has led to the recovery of over 350 mobile phones valued at more than Rs. 50 lakh.

Mobile thefts now account for more than 87% of crimes reported in the Delhi Metro, often involving organized networks that swiftly transport stolen devices across states. Many victims, especially those residing outside Delhi, have faced difficulties in reclaiming their devices due to procedural hurdles.

Under the leadership of  Kushal Pal Singh, IPS, DCP Metro, and guidance from  Milind Mahadeo Dumbere, IPS, Jt. CP/Transport Range, and  Robin Hibu, Spl. CP/PTSD, the initiative operates under the close supervision of Satish Golcha, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, ensuring seamless execution and maximum efficiency.

The mission follows a multi-tiered approach through five specialized units:

  • Technical Unit: Tracks stolen devices using e-FIR data and technical surveillance.

  • Field Unit: Apprehends offenders and dismantles organized theft networks operating across metro stations.

  • Nodal Officers Unit: Assigns Inspector-rank officers in each state to facilitate coordination with local law enforcement.

  • Court Facilitation Unit: Streamlines legal procedures, allowing victims to participate virtually and eliminating legal fees as a barrier to reclaiming stolen property.

  • Reconnecting Unit: Ensures the efficient return of recovered devices, either at police stations or directly to the owner’s residence.

Since its inception, Mission Reconnect 2.0 has already resulted in the return of hundreds of devices, with teams covering more than 15 states to locate offenders and restore property to rightful owners.

The initiative was officially launched today at the DCP/Metro office complex, Kashmiri Gate, Delhi, in the presence of  Milind Mahadeo Dumbere, IPS, and Kushal Pal Singh, IPS. During the event, 80 mobile phones were handed back to victims and complainants, highlighting the mission’s commitment not only to law enforcement but also to public trust and confidence.

“Mission Reconnect 2.0 is more than just recovering stolen phones—it is about restoring faith, strengthening public confidence, and demonstrating that the Delhi Police is proactive in protecting citizens and upholding justice,” said Kushal Pal Singh, IPS, DCP Metro.

This mission reaffirms that justice should be accessible, efficient, and inclusive, ensuring that every citizen’s connection to their digital and personal life is preserved.
