New Delhi, August 25: The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier Telecom R&D Centre of the Department of Telecommunications, celebrated its 42nd Foundation Day at its Delhi campus on Sunday.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, inaugurated the event as Chief Guest and highlighted the pivotal role of telecom in national security. “Every network we build, every signal we transmit, every data packet we carry is part of India’s strategic infrastructure. C-DOT engineers, you are not only technologists but also guardians of India’s digital borders,” he said.

Dr. Pemmasani called upon C-DOT to emerge as a global leader in secure and trusted telecom solutions by 2047. He appreciated the organization’s contribution in delivering a 4G core for BSNL and urged engineers to scale it into a world-class product.
Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary (Telecom), lauded C-DOT’s innovation-driven growth and reiterated the Government’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat. CEO Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay underlined C-DOT’s achievements, including the development of AI-based systems that helped disconnect five crore fraudulent mobile connections, protecting citizens from cyber fraud.

The day-long celebrations featured technical sessions by global experts from IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IISc and international industry leaders, who shared insights on AI, Cybersecurity, 6G and Quantum Communication.
Marking its commitment to women-led innovation, C-DOT also recognised and awarded 10 entrepreneurs under the NIDHI program, aimed at supporting women-led startups in the ICT sector.

Since its inception in 1984, C-DOT has spearheaded India’s telecom revolution—powering BharatNet, advancing 4G/5G networks, IoT, disaster management systems, and pioneering research into future-ready technologies such as 6G.
