Delhi’s Grandest Tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Under CM Rekha Gupta; VR & Global Devotee App in Focus

Minister of Art, Culture and Languages  Kapil Mishra said, “This event is Delhi’s duty — a long-overdue homage to Guru Sahib’s message of unity, courage and righteousness.

New Delhi,-  The Delhi Government will commemorate the 350th martyrdom day of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji through a grand 3-day event at Red Fort, the very site where the ninth Sikh Guru attained martyrdom.

A high-level meeting to finalise the event plans was chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today and attended by eminent community members, leaders and religious organisations along with Delhi’s Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra and Environment Minister Shri Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

The attendees included Padma Shri and Rajya Sabha MP  Vikramjit Singh, former MP  Tarlochan Singh,  SS Kohli, Charan Singh (Punjab & Sindh Bank), DSGMC Chairman Harmeet Singh Kalka, and various Gurudwara committee members from Delhi NCR and other states.

Addressing the meeting, CM Rekha Gupta said, “Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom represents India’s highest ideals of freedom, justice and compassion. This event is Delhi’s heartfelt tribute to those values. Our aim is not just to commemorate history, but to take Guru Sahib’s timeless message to every home, every school, and every generation.”

She added that this event will be Delhi’s first and the country’s largest event where people of all faiths will come together in shared reverence to honour Guru Sahib’s supreme sacrifice.

Senior Sikh leader and Delhi’s Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who is actively coordinating the event, said, “This is the first time Delhi will witness such a large-scale, immersive tribute to Guru Sahib. We are organising a Light & Sound Show at Red Fort, which will be based entirely on Sikh history and the life and teachings of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.”

He added, “We are also introducing a Virtual Reality experience for students to relive key moments from Guru Sahib’s life. The Department of Art and Culture is in constant consultation with community leaders and Gurdwara committees. We held an earlier meeting in June where several ideas were shared — these suggestions are forming the basis of the event design. The government has also decided to dedicate the Miyawaki forest coming up in Jaunapur to Guru Sahib.”

Sirsa also informed that Guru Sahib’s teachings will be made available to the public during the event, to ensure widespread understanding of his spiritual and philosophical contributions.

We are also revamping the Guru Tegh Bahadur Memorial, where a daily Light and Sound Show will be launched. In response to community suggestions, the Delhi Government is actively exploring locations to build a dedicated research and study centre focused on Sikh history.”

He added, “Under the visionary leadership of  Prime Minister Narendra Modi  — who has always worked to bring Sikh history and valor to the global stage — and under the effective guidance of our CM Rekha Gupta ji, this event marks a new chapter in cultural responsibility. Our goal is to connect Delhi’s youth with the rich spiritual and historical legacy of Sikhism.”

The event features a Light & Sound Show at Red Fort based on Sikh history and Guru Sahib’s life, along with a Kirtan Darbar and Langar for thousands of devotees for four days. A seminar with community leaders of all faiths will also be held. Visitors can explore an immersive museum and exhibit showcasing rare Sikh manuscripts, paintings, and historical archives. There will be app-based virtual participation for devotees and a VR experience to give students an immersive walkthrough of key events from Sikh history and Guru Sahib’s martyrdom. A daily Light & Sound Show at GTB Memorial is also in the pipeline. Guru Sahib’s teachings will be shared in multiple languages, and Kirtan Darbars along with the illumination of Gurdwaras across Delhi will take place during the event. To further ensure widespread engagement, the Delhi Government will also organise year-long cultural programmes, inter-school competitions, debates, and exhibitions in schools, colleges and community centres. These efforts aim to educate the younger generation about the valour and legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and deepen their connection with Delhi’s rich Sikh heritage.
