Sai Sudharsan Reveals Shubman Gill’s Honest Talk Helped Him Bounce Back in Manchester Test

Manchester [UK], July 24 : After a shaky start to his Test career, young Indian batter Sai Sudharsan showcased his resilience in the fourth Test at Manchester, scoring a gritty 61 off 151 deliveries. His composed innings, featuring seven boundaries, was a strong response after being dropped for the second and third Tests.

Sudharsan, who had scored 0 and 30 in his debut match at Headingley, credited Indian Test skipper Shubman Gill for clear communication and moral support. “Shubby came and gave me the complete picture,” Sai said during the post-day press conference. He revealed that Gill explained the team combination dynamics and reassured him after the first Test. “As captain, Shubby is very communicative. He lets everyone know what’s expected and highlights the positives in their performance.”

The 23-year-old also shared how their bond, developed during their stint with Gujarat Titans in the IPL, has helped him grow. “It’s been a special journey seeing Shubby from IPL days to now leading India,” Sai added.

India finished Day 1 at 264/4, with Ravindra Jadeja (19)* and Shardul Thakur (19)* unbeaten. Sudharsan’s maiden fifty came in the 69th over off Joe Root, before he was dismissed by Ben Stokes in the 74th over.

Earlier in the day, England chose to field. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL RAHULgave a solid start. Rahul reached the milestone of 1,000 Test runs in England, joining legends like Gavaskar, Dravid, Tendulkar, and Kohli. India reached 42/0 in the first hour and built steadily from there.

The day also saw Rishabh Pant retire hurt after being struck on the foot by Chris Woakes. He was replaced by Jadeja.

For England, Ben Stokes claimed two wickets, while Woakes and Liam Dawson took one each.

India’s disciplined batting and Sai’s comeback innings have set up the game nicely as they aim to build a commanding first-innings total.
